The bikes (34%) and the training equipment at home (26%) are the sport items most purchased in the second hand market
A little more than a month for the arrival of the summer, the bikini operation is booming and, apart from taking care of the diet, many decide to increase the sports practice to improve their physical condition. That's how it comes from study ‘Bikini Operating and Sports habits’performed by Milanuncios, which reveals that one in four Spaniards (37%) intensifies physical exercise by these dates.
The running, a sport that has enjoyed for years a great popularity in our country, is the choice chosen by 40% of the Spaniards when it comes to getting in shape to the summer, followed by other very popular activities such as the fitness (35%), swimming (22%) or cycling (19%).
Choosing one modality or another is, in some cases, a gender issue. Them men prefer the running (47%) and cycling (28%), while the women usually opt for activities such as fitness (42%) or swimming (24%), although running is also one of the sports most chosen by them (33%).
Thus, the report states that two out of three Spaniards (66%) practice physical activity on a regular or summer basis and that the motivation usually lasts more than six months for 65%, compared to 26% that abandons it before three months. By gender, women are the ones who once demotivate, as 33% do so before three months, compared to 18% of men. It also draws attention to the fact that older people remain stronger in their intentions than young people.
By region, Spanish-languages (68%) are the ones who practice the most, followed very closely by canaries, Spanish-Manchegos and Catalans (67%). At the other end, the Basques (63%) are the ones who do the least. As for the time they are motivated, the Catalans and the Murcianos are leading the ranking, among whom seven out of ten (70%) maintain their intention for more than six months. Valencians, for their part, are the ones who leave it before, as 13% claim to desist before a month.
An average expense of more than one hundred euros
The Spaniards spend an average of 103€ on sports material for the bikini operation, being the men who spend the most money (118€ vs 90€). An expense that is also increased as the age progresses, since in the case of the Baby Boom (50-64 years) and Generation X (41-50 years) amount to 591€ and 534€, respectively; a number substantially higher than those of the Millennials (279€) and Generation Z (157€). By Autonomous Communities, the Basques and the Castilians, with 117€ and 116€ respectively, are the ones who spend the most money on articles related to sport. The least, the Valencians (91€).
By type of product, the Spaniards mostly buy sports clothing and footwear (54%), outdoor sports equipment such as climbing, hiking or horse-riding (14%) and home-training devices such as static bicycles, ellipticals or running machines (11%). These articles represent an important expense, which is why six out of ten Spaniards (61%) come or plan to go to the second-hand market in order to reduce it. In this sense, despite occupying the first places in purchase, sportswear and footwear and equipment for outdoor sports are the articles that have the most barriers to be acquired in the second-hand market, both aimed at 8% of the respondents. At the opposite end, the Spaniards are more open to buying bicycles (34%) and second-hand training equipment (26%) due probably to the high price of this type of products in the traditional market.
More than 400€ for unused sports material
The Spaniards have at home sports objects worth 435€ that do not use and which, therefore, would be susceptible to be sold secondhand. In line with the level of expenditure, men are the ones who have the most value accumulated in disused articles, 558€ compared to 328€ for women. For regions, the canaries, with 614€ and the Madrid, with 591€, lead the belonging of objects without use.
