Traditional medicine comes with negative side effects. Save your money. Growing an herb garden can help you live a healthier, happier life.

I’ve tried time and time again to grow my own herb garden and join in on all the benefits of having your own home herbs. Each time, something happens. A gnat infestation takes over, I forget to water the plants, or the sunlight in my kitchen isn’t quite right.

I always ask myself, “Will this be the time my herb garden lasts?” Sometimes I wonder why I even bother. And even though my green thumb seems to fail me when it comes to growing herbs at home, from seed to plant, I won’t give up just yet. I know the benefits that come with an herb garden at home are astounding.

Above is the beginning of my 3rd attempt at a home herb garden. For this spring, I chose to use a pre-packaged indoor herb growing kit in hopes the herbs would grow better this year.

There are tons of reasons why herbs are good for you, but here are 9 reasons why you need to grow your own herb garden at home.

1. Save Money on Groceries

Herbs can be expensive in some stores.

Stores rack up the price of certain items to downright ridiculous prices, especially things we often use in small quantities like herbs. Depending on where you shop, you could easily be spending much more than you need.

Yet, adding a few herbs is an inexpensive way to spice up any meal. Buying your own seeds or plants is highly inexpensive compared to overpriced bushels at supermarkets.

When you have your own supply growing at home, your herbs can continue to grow while you take small sections for your meals. Use only what you need, when you need it. Dry the rest for homemade spices.

2. Better and Fresher Homemade Meals

Accentuate the flavors of your dish with home-grown herbs. No matter what recipe you follow, the herbs you pick from your garden taste fresh. Even your own dried herbs have to be fresher than the packaged bottles at your local supermarket.

Imagine how wonderful your homemade meals will taste! You may even start to enjoy cooking in a new, recharged way.

Peppermint, rosemary, oregano, and thyme are the most popular options to include in your meals.

3. Healthy Body = Healthy Mind

The well-researched antioxidant properties and vitamin replacements many herbs contain benefit your health. Adding herbs to your meal becomes an easy way to get the nutrients you need each day and boost your overall health.

Plus, a healthy body translates to a healthy mind. Expect to feel more energized and even happier.

Many types of herbs even naturally repel pesky insects, such as mosquitos.

If you want, you can plant your herb garden near a location where you sit to relax. The plants automatically keep the bugs from coming near (often due to the strong aroma alone). Areas like outdoor seating on your patio or a kitchen windowsill are excellent places where you may want to keep pests out. Todo sobre productos Xiaomi

Try growing herbs like basil, lavender, and peppermint to keep pesky bugs like mosquitos away from your home.

5. Aromatherapy Aids Various Health Problems

The ancient art of aromatherapy can enhance your life in many ways. Aromatherapy is commonly used today as a stress reliever and mood booster. However, there are health benefits for people with a wide range of health issues.

Many people around the world use natural options like herbs to treat health conditions.

The most popular herbs for health problems include:

  • Echinacea (aka coneflower): Long-used by Native Americans to treat wounds, burns, toothache, upset stomach, sore throat, and the common cold.

  • Ginseng: Traditional Chinese medicine used the herb to boost immunity, energy, and brain function while reducing inflammation.

  • Elderberry: Ancient herbal medicine utilized the cooked fruit to relieve toothache, headaches, colds, nerve pain, viral infections, and even constipation.

  • Turmeric: An herb from the ginger family, turmeric has been used in cooking for thousands of years thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. Use it for chronic inflammation and pain, such as from arthritis. It even helps anxiety.

  • Ginger: Common in herbal medicine, ginger treats colds, migraines, nausea, and high blood pressure.

  • Chamomile: One of the most popular herbal medicines across the globe, chamomile flowers are a remedy for stomach pain, diarrhea, nausea, constipation, urinary tract infections, upper respiratory infections, and wounds.

  • Cinnamon: A powerful anti-diabetic and antioxidant, cinnamon also lowers blood sugar levels, fights inflammation, and lowers cholesterol.

  • Sage: Improves memory and brain function, especially when people with Alzheimer’s disease use sage.

  • Peppermint: Long-used in folk medicine and aromatherapy, peppermint fights nausea and other digestive issues. Studies show it improves pain management in people with IBS and reduces nausea after surgery or C-section births.

  • Holy basil: Overall, holy basil boosts your immunity and fights infections. It can also reduce blood sugar levels and treat anxiety or anxiety-related depression.

  • Rosemary: The active ingredient in rosemary prevents allergy symptoms, such as nasal congestion and mucus production.

You can gain benefits from the herbs through herbal teas, supplements, essential oils, or by simply adding the herb to your homemade meals.

Most herbs don’t take up much space, don’t need more than 4-6 hours of sunlight each day, and require little maintenance. You only need to check up on them once in a while to water the soil. Overall, very little labor is needed to grow an indoor herb garden all year round.

Plus, herbs are excellent for vertical gardens. If you live in a small space, there are plenty of genius ways to grow these small plants at home.

8. Gardening Relieves Stress
