The pharmaceutical company, specialized in nutraceutical development, focuses its CSR actions on projects that improve life and help the well-being of the most disadvantaged people.
AORA Health Collaborates with the Pablo Horstmann Foundation to support the project “Let Children Have Health”; a maternal and child clinic managed by the entity in the town of Meki, 130 kilometres south of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. The pharmaceutical company has collaborated continuously with the Foundation since 2017, one year after the creation of AORA Health and its latest contribution will be dedicated to the Meki clinic.
The clinic, opened in 2012, caters to 20,000 patients a year, with special attention to the malnutrition problems that occur in the child population. Since 2019, the health centre has been providing pregnant women with childbirth, as well as a unit of newborns and a treatment of diseases such as HIV and Tuberculosis.
If every year, the Meki clinic treated more than 700 children in the Renutrition Unit and delivered 500 nutritional aids a month, currently, Because of the economic consequences of the pandemic and the country ' s political instability, the number of children treated for malnutrition has increased by 100 per cent. In the past 2021, a total of 1,050 children have been treated for severe or moderate acute malnutrition.
La Fundación Pablo Horstmann was installed in the town of Meki in 2011 to take over the orphanage “Let Children Have Home”. In the process of caring for children in the area, it detected the absence of paediatricians and health services, as well as a high infant death rate.
This led to the establishment of the clinic to care for children and adolescents in the orphanage and the whole community, up to the age of 18. Thanks to their work, infant mortality in the city of Meki has been reduced by 50%. The clinic works thanks to the will and effort of its local staff and health personnel who travel to the area from Spain.
According to Gonzalo Peñaranda, CEO of AORA Health: “Health is the main focus of our activity and, therefore, it is also our goal in terms of CSR actions. Being able to make our contribution to this project fills us with pride, since protecting the favored must be a primary premise in the activity of any company.”
AORA Health has carried out other collaborative actions with entities such as the Foundation Cris against Cancer, participating in the financing of a clinical trial at the San Carlos Clinical Hospital in Madrid, on the effect of COVID-19 in cancer patients. The company donated for this purpose a 5% of all its billing in the pharmacy channel.
