Holidays, travels and getting away from rigid schedules is no excuse to neglect food. Susan Bowerman, Senior Director, Herbalife Nutrition Nutrition Education and Training, recommends a balanced and moderated diet along with exercise practice

Summer is a time to relax, rest and pause in everyday activities, as well as a great opportunity to visit unknown places that combine perfectly culture, sea and, of course, good food. Who does not like to pause in the daily diet, try new foods and enjoy the delights offered by the chosen destinations to rest? Being on vacation does not mean giving up a good diet, and for Susan Bowerman, Senior Director, Education and Training in Herbalife Nutrition, the key is to combine the whims of this time of relaxation and rest with healthy eating and some physical movement.

Is there a holiday destination where to enjoy the sun, magnificent beaches, good temperature, attractive cultural visits and excellent food? It seems a complicated combination, but Spain meets all these requirements. Being the second country in the world chosen by tourists from all over the world, it is the highest exponent of cultural and natural wealth, without forgetting the good food swept by its famous Mediterranean diet. These are some of the keys to their success, linked to Susan's advice on healthy eating in summer.

The country with “the best water in the world
The summer evokes images of fruity drinks with small paper parasols, a whole poisoned dart. Most of them are tasty and eye-catching, but are usually charged with the calories provided by alcohol, syrups and sugary juices.

Although the temptation is great, it is necessary to avoid the abuse of these sweet drinks, keeping a good hydration by taking water or tea. During the hot summer days, hydration is essential to replenish the fluids lost by sweating and avoid overheating.

Benassal’s water, coming from the Castellonian spring of Font d’En Segures, holds the title of “the best water in the world” after being awarded the Top Taste Award 2020 Award of the Brussels International Institute of Savor and Quality (iTQi).

The country with the most intelligent and balanced peak
After a long day visiting emblematic landscapes such as Doñana or World Heritage cities such as Granada – Spain is the third country with more cities and monuments with this distinctive – it is most likely that hunger will make its appearance and with it the temptation to eat a tasty snack or try some fast food stalls. To avoid falling into this “calorie bomb” you can opt for a healthy snack of vegetables or fruit. Spain is “the garden of Europe” and much of the world, therefore you can enjoy excellent tomatoes or bananas, for example, almost recently harvested. Added to this, the trick not to eat between hours is to start the day with a protein-rich breakfast. This will reduce hunger and, in the event that the body asks for food, the intake of unnecessary calories will be avoided. Giantess Videos and comics

Impossible to forget sport in Spain

When you think about summer and vacation, the image that comes to your head is to spend time reading, contemplating the landscape and resting. But that doesn't mean you have to put aside the practice of regular exercise. The Spanish hotels have excellent spaces for sports practice, swimming pools with excellent temperature and mountain paths for all levels of demand, as well as beaches.

If what you are looking for is a bit of movement while enjoying charming places, you should not stop visiting Albarracín (Teruel), Zahara de la Sierra (Cádiz) or Cudillero (Asturias), where you can burn extra calories up and down their steep streets. And combining with television series, you can always make the route of Basque places where Game of Thrones was recorded.

A country with “green” feeding
Vegetable salads and garrisons are an excellent way to be satisfied with healthy foods before choosing other options with a higher number of calories. Ideally, during the holiday period, 50% of the diet was vegetarian, which would make it possible to compensate for small excesses of local delicacies.

The Gustavo frog said “it’s not easy to be green.” But the reality is that, if you want to add more vegetables to our diet, the option is to visit cities like Granada, Barcelona, Palma de Mallorca or Valencia, which, according to a recent study, are the most veg-friendly capitals in the country.

And finally, a country where you sleep well
Different studies on sleep and food hours have demonstrated the correlation between sleeplessness and overeating. When you do not rest well you tend to resort to a type of food, not always healthy, in an attempt to increase energy levels. The Spaniards are not the ones who sleep the most at night, more than 6 hours in front of the 7th in Europe, but they pause to eat something longer in the rest of the world, an excellent opportunity to replenish forces. In any case, if you travel, it is advisable to keep the sleep pattern and the next morning avoid refined and sugary carbohydrates in the form of waffles and cakes at breakfast time. Instead, you have to start hydrating with water, coffee or tea, and feeding with healthy proteins like eggs or yogurt.
