Instructions

  • Depending on the size and design you have in mind for the Tiki bar, you will have to collect these items; old bar or table, roof-thatching material like palm fronds or straw, plywood, bamboo poles, ropes, twine for lashing, tools, etc. You will also need decorative items like, raffia grass, bamboo mats, artificial tropical flowers, leis, carved and painted Tiki idols, masks, and seashells.
  • First, you have to decide where you would like to place your Tiki bar, like beside your pool for example. Once you have made your choice, you can proceed to building a Tiki bar. Set up your table, and bore holes through the tabletop at the four corners.
  • Decorate the tabletop using plywood or varnish the table, and top it with glass. You will need to bore holes in the plywood, that correspond with the ones on the table. If you use glass, you will need to purchase a glasscutter, and some light oil to cut out the holes. Fix bamboo posts in the holes, and secure them well.
  • The next step in creating a home Tiki bar, is building the roof of the Tiki bar. To build a Tiki bar roof you will need plywood, straw, and some waterproof plastic sheets. Build the framework for your Tiki bar using the plywood, and make sure it resembles the roof of a tropical hut.
  • Waterproof plastic sheets will help protect your Tiki bar from rain. Use the waterproof sheets to cover the whole roof-frame and secure it firmly. Now you can proceed to thatching the Tiki bar roof structure with straw. Place the roof on the bamboo poles and secure them. Once you are done, you can also decorate the thatched roof with artificial tropical flowers.
  • If you have used a glass tabletop, you can paint tropical motifs on it. Use bamboo mats to decorate the front of your Tiki bar, and then use raffia grass to accentuate that tropical look. Moreover, you can add some nice tropical flowers, seashells, etc.
  • Finally, to create a home Tiki bar, you also need to decorate the interior of your bar. You can use Tiki torches to decorate the bamboo poles, and purchase or create your own Tiki masks and idols to give your Tiki bar a truly tropical feel. You also need to place some cane stools around your bar, so that your guests can sit at the bar counter.
