Hummus is one of the most tasty and nutritious dip that originated from Middle East. Hummus has an unusually good taste and makes a great snack when served with pita triangles, crackers, toast or raw vegetable sticks.

The two primary ingredients of hummus, chickpeas and tahini make it a nutritious serve rich in calcium, protein and dietary fiber.

Of course you can pick a large tub of hummus from your grocery store on your next visit. But try this hummus recipe at home and you will be surprised at the ease and convenience by which you can whip up this unusual dip and earn accolades for your culinary skills!

The given recipe for hummus will give you 2 cups of fresh home made dip that can be stored in refrigerator for 3 days.

 

Instructions

  • You need: 1 cup dried chick peas, 3-4 cloves garlic, 1/3 cup sesame tahini( paste of white sesame seeds), 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 2 tbspoon olive oil, 1 tsp roasted cumin,1 tsp salt and a strong blender or food processor.
  • Preparation: Soak the chickpeas overnight in a pan full of water. Boil them an hour before you start making hummus. Save some water after draining the boiled chickpeas. Prepare the tahini paste by the given tahini recipe. Roast sesame seeds and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and blend in a processor. It will give you a thick smooth tahini paste to be added in hummus.
  • Process: Add the boiled chickpeas, tahini paste and rest of the ingredients in a food processor and blend thoroughly. The hummus should have a thick, creamy and a smooth paste like consistency. If it looks thick add some water you saved after draining the chickpeas.
  • Serving suggestions: A dollop of freshly prepared hummus is a real delight. You can serve it with raw vegetables like carrot sticks, cucumber or baby corns. Spread it on the toast or fill it in your sandwiches and you have a hearty breakfast ready. Scoop out and munch it with some crisp crackers and chips as a wonderful appetizing snack!

  • If you have a spicy taste bud you can add red or green chilies in the recipe.
