  • Solar control films or window tints are polyester films which are extremely thin and resistant to scratches. They are installed in the interior side of the window. These window tints are either dyed or embedded with metals to keep the sunlight out of your house. Moreover the solar films are available in a range of colors apart from black like gray, brown and bronze.
  • Once you have selected the window tint, begin by cleaning the window to remove any dust or grime that may cause bubbles in the film. Measure the windows to get an idea about the size of the films that you need to purchase.
  • Remove the protective liner from the adhesive coating of the film. It is a good idea to recruit some help in this process. Spray on some water onto the window surface where you would be applying the film. This helps the adhesive on the window films cling better to the window as most adhesives on window clings are activated by water.
  • Keeping the adhesive side to the window surface, apply the film starting from one side of the window. Use a squeegee to smooth out any bubbles and some more of the water spray. Once the film is smooth blot out the excess water with a sponge. Let the film dry for a couple of days to ensure that tint is applied firmly.
  • Clean the window tint with soap and water solution or vinegar and water. Use a soft cloth rather than abrasive paper towels.
