  • Most woolen garments cannot be washed in a washing machine. However, certain wool fabrics can be cleaned in a washing machine. Read the washing instructions before you begin washing your woolens. This way you will know if the woolen garment can be machine-washed, the temperature to be used during washing, etc.
  • To begin washing woolens, fill a tub or your sink with warm water. It is recommended to wash woolens in warm water so that they come out clean and sanitized. Place your woolen clothes in the warm water. Ensure that there is enough water in the tub so that the clothes get completely immersed in it.
  • It is critical that you do not rub or handle wool roughly. Hence, do not rub the woolen garments even if they have stains on them. In most cases, warm water and cleaning detergent will do the job of getting rid of the stains.
  • Once you have immersed the woolen garments in warm water, pour some dish cleaning liquid into the tub. You could also use a cleaning detergent specially formulated for woolens – however dish cleaning liquid is just as effective. Gently lather the detergent and let the woolen garments soak in it for some time.
  • Next, rinse the woolen garments by running them under lukewarm water for some time. Ensure you do not wring the woolens at all. Repeat the rinse cycles till the soapy water disappears.
  • Allow water to drain from the garments. Placing the woolens in a vessel with tiny holes will do the trick here.Next, dry the woolens on a flat surface. Spread a towel before you lay the clothes on a flat surface so that the towel soaks up any remaining water.
  • Place the woolens in an area where there is good air circulation. It may take 3-4 days before your woolens finally come out dry.
