A study led by Hui-Yi Lin, Ph.D (1)., Professor of Biostatistics, and a team of LSU Health New Orleans Medical Researchers has found that the appropriate levels of five antioxidants can reduce infection with strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV) associated with the development of cervical cancer. The findings are published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases.. Although previous studies have suggested that the initiation of HPV-related cancer development can be activated by oxidative stress,

 

“Our results showed that women with less conceiving of nutritional antioxidants Vitamin A, Folic Acid, B2 and Vitamin E were more likely to have both high-risk and low-risk HPV infection compared to women with the highest score after adjusting for other factors such as age, race, smoking, alcohol, and the number of sexual partners in the last 12 months “, notes the main author of the article, Hui-Yi Lin, Ph.D., professor of biostatistics at the LSU Health New Orleans Public Health School.

  • The Shiitake (Lentinus edodes) which has shown, in clinical studies (3), to improve immunity, through increased cell proliferation and activation, of T cells and NK-T cells – natural Killers, among others, and the activation and increase of IgA production. It also causes changes in the cytokines and serum levels of PCR which reflects a decrease in inflammation.
