The need to include fish in a healthy diet is a work that occupies administrations, but also fishers. In this line, the cephalopower fleet with base port in Las Palmas maintains its promotional work of the “real food”
Anacef has achieved a luxury ally for his “We like fish” initiative: the Spanish guru of healthy food, Carlos Rios. From the hand of the well-known nutritionist, the organization that represents the shipowners of the cephalo-power vessels with base port in Las Palmas seeks to enhance a project that was born last year with a triple objective: to promote the consumption of fish among the canaries, those who consume less fish from all over Spain, according to the report on consumption habits of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA); to generate economic activity in the islands; and to give access to the consumer to healthy products.
With the goal of reaching as many people as possible, Anacef’s shipowners chose this year the Gourmets Hall, the annual showcase for high-end food and beverages, to present their campaign “We like fish because we love real food”. A promotional action, which will continue throughout the year with other initiatives, aimed at spreading the need to consume more fish, a super-food from which Carlos Rios is a great advocate for gathering key properties such as quality, availability and health benefits. A logical bet for this nutritionist who has been working for years to value real food and thus improve the physical and mental state of the population through food. It is an adalid of “real food”, a movement and lifestyle that bets on eating food as least processed as possible.
This year, the central promotional action held in the Madrid salon also had the tasting of different dishes made with species that captures the fleet with base port in Las Palmas, with recipes devised by two young Canarian chefs: Alejandro Sosa and Xabier Luis Boya. Students in different hotel centres in the islands, these two promises of the Canarian cuisine conquered last year the palates of the jury of the contest promoted by Anacef.
Canary Islands, among communities that consume less fish
“We like fish by Anacef”, which will include various promotional activities throughout this year in the Canary Islands, was born in 2021 in response to the report commissioned in 2020 by the organization of producers Anacef (OPP43) to an independent consultant to know the habits of islean consumption and to adapt the promotion campaigns of fish consumption to the particularities of the residents.
The initiative responds to a real need, as reflected in the last annual report on food consumption of Spain of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, which maintains the Canary Islands as the autonomous community that less fish consumes. Hence the motivation to encourage the Canarian population to include sea products in their diet, their nutritional importance and the versatility of the products that this fleet captures in the waters of West Africa.
