The Catalan laboratory of food supplements and medicinal plants Plameca addresses a new stage of growth after changing owner

The company of Pallejà (Baix Llobregat), founded in 1984, has been for more than 20 years a subsidiary of the pharmaceutical group Suanfarma, based in Alcobendas (Madrid) and owned by the French venture capital Archimed. Early in March, Héctor Ara, founder and president of Suanfarma, and the board of directors of Plameca, acquired 100% of the capital for about 15 million euros.

Plameca it has considered that it is time to embark on a new path of expansion in a rising market like that of food supplements. Its strategic plan as an independent company contemplates as the first major milestone the construction of a new production plant in Sant Joan Despí (Baix Llobregat) through an investment of ten million euros. The aim of the company is to move the industrial activity that is currently being carried out in Pallejà and expand the production capacity. The purchase of the land has resulted in a disbursement of three million euros and the works are expected to start within one month. The new factory will have 6,000 square meters of built surface and will have GMP certification of good manufacturing practices. Triplicate the value
“We want to maximize Plameca’s growth potential,” says Oscar Fernández, CEO of the company. “The management team – he added – has very clear how to do it and we have collected it in a new strategic plan to triple the value of it in three years.” Currently the firm bills about 12 million euros a year and 30% comes from the foreign business.

Along with the strengthening of industrial activity, Plameca will boost the company's digitalization and introduce its products to the pharmacies. The firm has been a pioneer in applying pharmaceutical standards to the nutritional supplement segment.
