Animal Hub launches the “Institutable” campaign to show its support to the collective
Coinciding with the World Veterinary Day, to be held on Saturday, April 25, the Spanish veterinarians claim their fundamental role in the society and economy of the country. This sector, which normally relates exclusively to the care of the health of the pets of the company, responds to social and economic needs such as livestock and aquaculture production, food security, zoonosis prevention, environmental control and care, customs control and clinical analysis. Their multiple facets make them an indispensable asset, which is why essential services were decreed during the Alarm State.
For all this, Animal Hub, the non-profit platform that brings together 30,000 veterinarians, entities and companies that work with animals and that aims to ensure a fair and healthy relationship between animals and people, has launched the “Insurable” campaign in its social media profiles. Through this initiative, the platform aims not only to value the impact that veterinarians have on society, but also to recognize their great work.
Veterinary and Environment, World Veterinary Day
Environmental Protection to Improve Animal and Human Health is the theme chosen by the World Veterinary Association for this 2020 edition. Spanish veterinarians who are part of Animal Hub recall that their role guarantees, not only the survival of animals, but also the coexistence with people and the management of natural resources.
In this regard, veterinarians mitigate the effects of climate change, guarantee the proper disposal of waste and medicines, and support the responsible use of natural resources in livestock breeding. Therefore, daily Spanish veterinarians monitor the state of wastewater and marine ecosystems by controlling the disposal of farm waste or the feasibility of toxicity of rivers and seas. In cattle farms, these professionals also control the substances that are part of the feeding of animals and antibiotics, with the aim of minimizing their impact on the environment. As for company animals, clinical veterinarians are responsible for ensuring the coexistence between animals and owners, ensuring their health and avoiding communicable infections through the responsible use of antibiotics.
99% of market products are under the control of veterinarians
The veterinarians are responsible for monitoring and ensuring the control of 99% of the products found in the markets, even if they are not of animal origin, controlling all vectors that can contribute to disease transmission. Thus, the Spanish veterinarians have detected and fought with outbreaks of plant origin such as E.Coli or against diseases of animal origin such as tularemia or swine pest, among many others.
In a country of great meat tradition as well as Spain and with a great weight in exports, the role of veterinarians, remember experts from Animal Hub, is essential, both socially and economically. This group is responsible for ensuring the quality of the products and its valuation can trigger the prohibition of exporting or importing certain products in favour of social health.
