Since its creation in 2015, on 26 November, World Iron Deficit Day, it has aimed to educate people around the world about the importance of iron for the body and the serious impact it can have if its levels are not properly managed, encouraging the population to be better informed and take control of their health. In this edition, the European Alliance for Kidney Health, the Cardiac Insufficiency Network, the international organization Anemia Community and Vifor Pharma emphasize the impact of iron deficit on women's health, chronic heart failure and kidney disease.

The iron deficit and iron deficit anemia are estimated to affect one in three people worldwide. However, despite the severe consequences and high prevalence, it remains an unrecognized condition.

And the iron deficit, with and without anemia, can be debilitating and exacerbating underlying chronic diseases, leading to increased morbidity and mortality. Your symptoms may manifest in different ways; they are difficult to determine and can be associated with other health conditions. The most common are:

- Fatigue

- Pale skin

- Uñas quebradizas

- Inability to concentrate

World Iron Deficit Day 2019 highlights the importance of this deficiency in women's health and its connection to chronic heart failure. Ed Harding, a member of the European Network for Cardiac Insufficiency Policy, has pointed out that “the iron deficit in conditions such as chronic heart failure (CIC) is a very serious problem; in Europe, 50% of patients with CCI have some form of iron deficiency. This international day has an important role to raise awareness about these conditions and help people understand their symptoms, seek an adequate diagnosis and ultimately receive the right treatment.”

To provide more information to the population, the Iron Deficit Day website has been created es.irondeficiencyday.com/, and their profiles on Instagram and Twitter, in addition to the hashtags #TakeIronSeriously and #IDD.

About the iron deficit
Although the iron deficit can affect anyone, it is more common in premenopausal women, pregnant women and children under five years of age. If not treated, it can become iron deficiency anemia. The effects of the iron deficit differ from one person to another, but may be related to a general decline in health and general well-being. Even without anemia, iron deficiency can be debilitating, exacerbating an underlying chronic disease and leading to increased morbidity and mortality. Common symptoms include fatigue, pale skin, brittle nails, cravings of grafting land, clay and ice and inability to concentrate. In children, the iron deficit can significantly affect cognitive and motor development.
