The ELP2050, a Spanish decarbonization strategy to achieve a guaranteed climate neutrality position in the next three decades. Isbran is committed to reducing carbon emissions through the development of Geothermal, a sustainable energy, capable of reducing emissions by up to 70% and which, in addition, promotes animal welfare

By 2020 the approved Long-term Decarbonization Strategy 2050 (ELP 2050), a document that reflects Spain's commitments on this subject as a member State of the European Union and with the Paris Agreement. La ELP2050 mark the path to achieve climate neutrality that will reduce 90% of the emissions of Invernadero Gases (GEI) by 2050 with respect to 1990, the remaining 10% will be absorbed by carbon sinks. A cambio of energy paradigm which will require improvements in the equipment and quality of life of livestock facilities and productions with their consequent positive effects on health and will undoubtedly promote the conservation of biodiversity and adaptation to the effects of climate change.

In the porcine sector, the main impacts of this activity on the environment come from the emissions of gases, both from Gases de Efecto Invernadero (GEI) and from ammonia, as well as the management of their manures, solids and liquids. In its environmental commitment to policy, ISBRAN developed Geotermia. La Geotermia is able to extract the heat from the purine pits, refrigerate the purin and, therefore, reduce their emissions, improve the environment of workers and provide greater well-being to animals. In particular, according to Bruno Jiménez, managing director of ISBRAN, “The heating projects in the maternity and transition farms with geothermal pumps can capture in their primary circuit the heat of the purin pits in the different ships. At the same time, this circuit cools the purines, lowering the temperature to levels where emissions are reduced by more than 70%.” Purine cooling is an efficient action in reducing emissions (amonia, methane and nitrous oxide).

According to INTERPORC, after deepening the latest reports of the ministries Agriculture and Ecological Transitionin the porcine sector GEI In the last fifteen years, it has been reduced by 40%. Now, for every ton of meat produced in a Spanish farm, 1,75 tons of CO2 were issued, while in 2005 2.9 tons were issued. In 2020, the Spanish porcine sector reduced GHG emissions by 5.4 per kilo of meat produced by 2019 by 5.4 per cent, the previous average percentage was 4.1 per cent. The data show that the sector has done a great deal of work to reduce its environmental impact and to continue to minimize emissions in 2050 to reach a guaranteed climate neutrality position. The efforts of the porcine sector, in environmental matters, are not limited to the reduction in the generation of GHG emissions, but extend to many other fields of the activity, such as: the reduction of the consumption of water, electricity and fuels or the lower generation of non-reusable plastics, waste or waste. The pig sector in Spain says Bruno Jiménez, managing director, “is a strategic sector of vital importance in land management that creates wealth, employment and fixed population. Renovation and modernization of the sector, which responds not only to the need to improve and adapt its facilities to regulations, but also to the strong commitment of companies like ISBRAN for sustainability, adaptation to climate change and civic commitment to meeting sustainable development goals.”

The next few years will be key to limit global warming, as reflected in a report published in early April by the UN climate change specialists group. The report collects textually “the goal of containing warming below 1.5 °C in 2100 is unattainable without an immediate and deep reduction and, in all sectors, of the emissions of Gases of Invernadero Effect”.

ISBRAN

:
Spanish pioneer in geothermal energy dedicated to the porcine sector, and specialized in providing air conditioning systems to maternity and transition farms. ISBRAN offers an innovative solution for efficient air conditioning to the swine farms that facilitates energy consumption and comfortability for the pigs and pigs by providing less energy dependence and a great help in decarbonization for the least use of energy.
