Orduna e-Learning and Orduna Ophthalmology celebrate World Diabetes Day with an International Day on Mellitus Diabetes and Visual Health. In Spain there are 6 million diabetics, half undiagnosed, and 6.85% of the legal blindness in Spain is related to diabetes

On the occasion of the celebration on 14 November of the World Day of Diabetes, Orduna e-Learning and Orduna Ophthalmology have organized for the previous day, on 13 November, a Day aimed at raising awareness among professionals and patients of the importance of periodically reviewing their vision. Both in this work of diffusion of visual health and in daily clinical practice, the organizers have the collaboration of ZEISS, the world's leading technology of the optical and ophthalmology sectors.

In Spain there are 6 million diabetics, half of them undiagnosed, and 6.85% of the legal blindness in Spain is related to diabetes.

How does pathologies such as diabetic retinopathy, macular edema, and other changes related to diabetes affect the vision?

It is estimated that diabetic retinopathy affects 1 in 10 diabetic patients in the Spanish population, and as the number of diabetic type 2 increases, the incidence of eye injuries and the possibility of affecting the visual function will be raised.

Early detection and new laser treatments
The probability of developing diabetic retinopathy is related to the duration and type of diabetes so early detection of diabetic retinopathy is crucial, as most patients do not experience any symptoms until advanced stage of the disease. Once diagnosed, it is necessary for visual health professionals to know the different treatments, not only anti-angiogenic injections, but also non-iatrogenic retina lasers, of which in Orduna Ophthalmology are pioneers in their Madrid clinic. In addition to ophthalmological care, during the day the optometric evaluation of the diabetic patient will be addressed, with and without low vision as diabetes not only affects retina. Clinical research suggests that up to 73.6 percent of type 2 diabetic patients suffer from corneal complications or the “per se” eye surface, which will also be addressed during the day, as well as other conditions.

With this day Orduna e-Learning and Orduna Ophthalmology aim to raise awareness among professionals and patients, of the early approach of diabetes-related eye conditions, to avoid the progress of blindness.

Orduna e-Learning and ZEISS Vision Care expand the collaboration framework
